Increasing Philanthropy in the Tri-State Area
In 1999, a group of community leaders began meeting to explore the feasibility of a community foundation in Dubuque, Iowa. After completing the research, the group was convinced that the community leadership and nonprofit support a community foundation provides was important to Dubuque’s future. The Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque was incorporated in October of 2001 and went public in October of 2002. An office was opened in the Dubuque Building on February 1, 2003 and the President/CEO was named.
"Before the organization of the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque, we had no vehicle for those of our citizens who wished to, and were able to, provide funds for the general well-being of the tri-state area and its people."
- John O’Connor, Founding Chair
