Project Hope

Project HOPE

Project HOPE (Helping Our People Excel) is an employment initiative of the City of Dubuque and is designed to serve as a catalyst within the community helping service providers, education/training providers, employers and job seekers build bridges to establish rewarding, long-term employment opportunities. Project HOPE encourages and facilitates collaboration among existing community resources and supports organizations that are expanding resources that share the mission of Project HOPE.

Mission
Project HOPE encourages and facilitates collaboration, communication, and advocacy among referral resources, education/training providers, employers, and people in our community to dissolve existing disparity and ensure equity in employment and economic opportunities.

Community Partners
Project HOPE has partnered with several organizations and agencies throughout the city in order to gain a better understanding and of the needs in the community and to better serve those who are unemployed and underemployed.

Education
Furthering an individuals education or job skills is essential for creating possibilities for employment. Programs such as: Dollar Wi$e, HEART, TRIO, PAVE, IJAG and the Explorer Post all offer opportunities for youth and adults to explore and engage in furthering education opportunities.

Employment
In the current hard economic times employment is difficult to find for anyone. Through a variety of different partnerships, programs have been established to provide soft skill training, job seeking skills, summer youth employment and self-exploration through Breaking Barriers/Pre-employment strategies, Getting Ahead in a Just-Gettin’-By World, Future Talk, Road to Success and Iowa Workforce Developments One Stop Shop.

Citizen
In order to better serve the populations in which Project HOPE works with, engagement in a variety of different issues directly affecting citizens is essential. Working with groups such as the Washington Neighborhood, Keyline Transit and the Diversity in the Workplace Committee, Project HOPE is able to assist in addressing the concerns of the citizens.

Business
Without the help and engagement of local businesses, the job skills and pre-employment training that many unemployed and underemployed are receiving is futile. The Road to Success and the Bridges out of Poverty training for businesses have helped to engage and educate employers of the skills and capabilities that so many potential employees posses.

Community Resources
Dubuque is a community rich in resources for all populations and is ready to serve the needs that arise and to provide information of what is available in the community. Information such as the Summer Youth Programming guide, 2-1-1 Information and Referral, Family Resource Guide, Project Concern County Resource Guide all connect people to services, programs and events that are happening within the community.
