| The YAPPERS meet to engage in teambuiding and leadership activities, to discuss local youth issues and to plan events and service projects throughout the community. In their collective role as youth leaders, the YAPPERS direct their energy and passion into two major projects:
The Empty Bowls Project - a youth poverty awareness and fundraising campaign. YAPPERS work with area youth to paint bowls and serve as mentors. The project concludes with an annual "Feed the Need" dinner and silent auction with the same mission. All proceeds benefit local youth in poverty.
A full grantmaking cycle - a process, that mirrors that of the Community Foundation. Grants are awarded to local agencies with programs that focus on youth.
As a YAPPER you must:
- Commit a year of your time and attend regularly scheduled meetings
- Learn about youth need and hardship in your community
- Make vital decisions about granting funds to youth projects
- Work with peers and adults to give credibility, responsibility and a strong voice to area youth.
- Commit yourself to community service
- Open yourself to personal growth and leadership opportunities
- Be a catalyst for change in your community
