The Sisters of the Presentation initiated this ministry of welcome in the Dubuque area with a primary focus on immigrant women. Since 2002, the center has provided hospitality, educational opportunities and advocacy to over 1,000 newcomers from six continents and 56 countries. In 15 years, 72 individuals have studied for and passed the citizenship test. Tutoring in English and developing life skills in a new culture are among the key experiences offered at Presentation Lantern Center. With these tools and gifts, new immigrants are better equipped to assist their family, engage in the education of their children, seek employment and participate more fully in the civic life of the community. During the summer of 2015, Kaoutar (Morocco) passed the U.S. citizenship test and attended a Swearing of Allegiance ceremony. With her tutor Mary Jean Gregory, and all our students, we celebrate Kaoutar's great achievement!
