Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque Presents Fourth Annual Great Give Day on Thursday, May 11

150 Northeast Iowa nonprofits will participate in the 24-hour, online-only fundraising event.

This year, the Community Foundation is partnering with The Grand Opera House for a Great Give Day celebration in downtown Dubuque.

The Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque (CFGD) will host the fourth annual Great Give Day on Thursday, May 11. Now in its fourth year, this annual event has raised nearly $900,000 for Northeast Iowa nonprofits.

This 24-hour, online-only giving day shines a spotlight on Northeast Iowa’s many nonprofits while helping them to attract new donors and build online fundraising capabilities for long-term success. The event is open to all nonprofit organizations with endowment funds at the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque. This year, 150 nonprofits throughout Dubuque, Allamakee, Clayton, Delaware, Jackson, Jones and Clinton Counties will be participating.

On Thursday, May 11, community members are invited to visit www.greatgiveday.org and support their favorite participating nonprofits with online donations of $10 or more. All gifts will go directly to the nonprofits, helping them to qualify for prize dollars from local corporate sponsors during contests held throughout the day. All donations must be made online with a credit/debit card or, new this year, with a banking account. Beginning on April 20, community members may also schedule gifts ahead of time through the website to be automatically processed at midnight on Thursday, May 11.

All Great Give Day donations are 100% tax deductible. Gifts of $50 or more to nonprofits that are directing donations to their endowment funds are also eligible for the generous Endow Iowa 25% State Tax credit. Community members can search by “Gift Type” at www.GreatGiveDay.org to see which donations are eligible for the Endow Iowa credit.

On May 11, the leaderboard at www.GreatGiveDay.org will reflect all donations in real time so donors can track the total amount raised as well as the progress of their favorite organizations. Visitors can search for nonprofits by organization name, zip code, or category (such as animals or education).

Throughout the day, nonprofits will compete for hourly and grand prizes funded by local sponsors. Community members can view the prize schedule at www.GreatGiveDay.org to see when their donations might help their favorite nonprofits win additional dollars. For prize updates, listen to Radio Dubuque stations (92.9 KAT FM, AM 1379 KDTH, 97.3 The ROCK and 101.1 The River) and follow the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque on Facebook and Twitter (@dbqfoundation).

This year, the Community Foundation is also partnering with The Grand Opera House for 24 hours of free events to promote Great Give Day awareness and donations, including a ghost hunt, movies, food trucks and live entertainment. A full schedule of events is available at http://thegrandoperahouse.com/great-give-day-2017.

“Great Give Day is a day dedicated to learning about and supporting local nonprofits online,” said Wendy Sweeney, CFGD nonprofit partnership coordinator. “The web makes it easy and convenient to donate to meaningful causes. It’s our hope that Great Give Day will encourage community members to give online just as much as they shop on Amazon or socialize on Facebook.”

Great Give Day is presented by the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque and presenting sponsor Theisen’s Home*Farm*Auto; Dupaco; American Trust & Savings Bank; Dubuque Bank & Trust; Klauer Manufacturing; the Foundation for the Future of Delaware County; and the Allamakee County Community Foundation. Media sponsors include theTelegraph Herald and Radio Dubuque.
