Foundation for Dubuque Public Schools Awards Judi Chandlee Tribute to Teachers Classroom Grants

DUBUQUE, IOWA--  On Tuesday, May 9th, National Teacher Appreciation Day, approximately $3,000 in classroom grants were awarded to public school teachers throughout the Dubuque Community School District (DCSD) through the Judi Chandlee Tribute to Teachers program.  The gifts will provide much needed funding for supplies, equipment, and innovative educational experiences throughout the district.

DCSD Teachers were invited to submit classroom grant applications to the Foundation for Dubuque Public Schools between February 15th and April 1st.  Requests were reviewed by a panel of board members, current and former educators, and community volunteers.  The grants are primarily funded by the family of Judi Chandlee, a beloved Eisenhower Elementary teacher, who passed away in 2011.  Donations to this program have also been received from private individuals, school district staff, and local businesses such as Premier Bank.

FDPS Tribute to Teachers grants were awarded on May 9th with surprise classroom visits to the teachers below:

Jefferson Middle School: TJMS School Garden - Elizabeth Burke

Prescott Elementary School:  iPad for Seesaw - Michaela Hennings
