Small Miracles Brings Christmas to Kids

‘Twas the Saturday for wrapping, and all through the halls, not one child was stirring, not one child at all...

For more than 25 years, ED-CO Christmas for Kids has transformed a small teachers lounge into a working North Pole. Every year, donations pour in from the community to help bring the joy of Christmas to every child.

“It’s a program where we will provide coats, boots, hats and gloves—those kinds of things—as well as some toys,” says District Secretary Jess Aulwes. “This year we’re going to be giving a bed to a child who doesn’t have one. It’s pretty exciting. It gives me goose bumps because I get to think that this little guy is going to have a bed.”

Aulwes has experienced those goose bumps for the last four years.

“I get to be Santa, I got to honestly tell my daughter there is a Santa Claus,” she says.

This year ED-CO Christmas for Kids received a grant from the Small Miracles Fund, an anonymous donor fund established through the Foundation for the Future of Delaware County.

“The grant from the small miracles fund will be used to buy coats, snow pants, boots, for all of our kids in the Christmas for kids program,” says Aulwes. “When those kiddos walk in after Christmas break in their new coats and their new hats, and they’re like, 'Mrs. Aulwes, Mrs. Aluwes, wait till you see what Santa Claus brought me,' it’s the best feeling in the world. The best. The best feeling ever.”
