Womens Giving Circle Awards $7500 in Grants to Local Nonprofits
DUBUQUE, Iowa--On Thursday, June 12, members, guests and nonprofit leaders gathered for the Annual Women's Giving Circle Gifts & Grants Celebration at the Dubuque Arboretum & Botanical Gardens. The Women’s Giving Circle received 18 proposals this year and awarded three grants totaling $7,500:
- $3,990 was awarded to the Delaware, Dubuque and Jackson County Regional Transit Authority (in partnership with Project Concern) to provide free transportation for women to medical appointments in Iowa City through Project Pass
- $2,662.50 was awarded to LEAP (Leadership Enrichment After-School), a program of the Dubuque Community School District, to support “Girls Experience Building and Design,” a Four-Day STEM Camp for middle school girls
- $850 was awarded to Riverview Center to replenish art and play therapy supplies to promote healing for women and child survivors of sexual assault/abuse
Circle members also contributed gifts to the following organizations that were invited to the event: Cedar Valley Friends of the Family, Dubuque Chorale, Hills & Dales Child Development Center, Iowa Radio Reading Information Service for the Blind and Print Handicapped, Inc., and St. Mark Youth Enrichment.
Proposals were scored on their approach to helping women or children gain self-sufficiency and/or significantly addressing barriers to opportunity. Applications for next year’s Women’s Giving Circle grants will be available April 1, 2015.
