Honoring the Legacy of a Beloved Teacher
There is no better way to support a teacher than to help fund items for their classrooms — and that is exactly what the Chandlee Family is doing through the Judi Chandlee Tribute to Teachers Fund. This year, grants are helping Dubuque teachers enhance classroom experiences by funding essentials from curriculum materials to indoor gardening supplies.
"Being awarded the Judi Chandlee grant is so much more than party hats and big checks," says Melanie McDonough of Prescott Elementary. "It means students getting access to materials I normally wouldn't have funds for, increased engagement for students and opportunities for parent involvement."
CFGD's Amy Unmacht, executive director of the Foundation for Dubuque Public Schools (FDPS), contributed an article to the September issue of Julien's Journal highlighting the many projects like McDonough's funded by 2018 grants from the Judi Chandlee Tribute to Teachers Fund.
FDPS is a nonprofit organization that supports student achievement by promoting investment in the Dubuque Public Schools. The organization is creating a permanent funding source for Dubuque public schools by raising an endowment through major and planned gifts; working with businesses, foundations, and private donors to build general, endowed and designated funds for educational programs in the district; and supporting the Dubuque Community School District's mission of developing world-class learners and citizens of character in a safe and inclusive learning community.
