Schoen Family Charitable Trust supports Sensory Equipment in Schools
The Schoen Family Charitable Trust has generously supported the Foundation for Dubuque Public Schools with funding to install sensory integration equipment at eight DCSD campuses. The staff and students were thrilled to receive these gifts, and have greatly benefitted from having access to them during therapy sessions, and within their school day.
Based on the successful implementation of the sensory equipment purchased in the last two years, the Schoen Family Charitable Trust has granted $7,188 to meet additional needs at Kennedy, Fulton, Irving, and Eisenhower Elementary schools and purchased activity wall panels for preschool-5th grade students who are served by our structured therapy programs.
The new equipment will enable students to have more opportunities, within their school day, to have access to hands on sensory equipment that is appropriate for their learning. It will also foster student independence by providing them with a safe, engaging activity. Funding for these therapeutic items is especially needed because they are expensive and reach far beyond an individual school building’s special education budget. Private funding from generous donors like the Schoen Family Charitable Trust enhances each school’s ability to provide high quality, specialized equipment that targets their students’ sensory needs.
