The Cornerstone Project, NFP is a group of about 12 volunteers in Lanark, Carroll County, Illinois who are dedicated to the preservation and restoration of our historic downtown. We, through charitable contributions and donation of our time and labor, have been actively working to preserve our downtown structures. The gazebo in our city park was rebuilt through our volunteer efforts. In 2007 we were able to save the Shumway building from being demolished. It is now the home of our local pharmacy. Currently, we are the owners of the Valentine Building a lovely structure Circa 1878. We are working to ready this building for sale so that its future owner will be able to concentrate on the running of their business and not be burdened by renovation of the structure. We have done major restoration to the exterior of the structure. We recently uncovered the original wood floors which will be an asset to the beauty of the structure when a new finish is applies. We are holding off on interior details and a heating system until we know the future use of the structure.
