At Dubuque Montessori School, we feel that our most important job is to teach the children respect of all living things, responsibility, grace, courtesy, and kindness. Charity is an ancient word that means to help others for the sake of love. Dr. Maria Montessori believed that the spirit of charity exists in all of us from the very youngest age. We know that is true, because we see it everyday in our classrooms. They may seem like small things, but when positively reinforced, that giving and nurturing behavior as a child, grows with them and takes them into adulthood as caring, responsible and loving community members. One of our past Directors, Beth Gilbreath, was also a firm believer of this, so she formed the Kids Care Club back in March of 2001. The great news is we are all members. We participate by extending charity into the community through various projects and getting our students involved with the help of their family members. Some projects we have had for Kids Care Club are for the Maria House, Dubuque Humane Society, Operation New View, hosting Christmas' for families in need, Project Night Night and we continuously host drives for the Dubuque Rescue Mission and Food Pantry. Dubuque Montessori School has made a commitment to keep outreach in our community a priority.
