The Jackson Hohmann “Play Like There's No Tomorrow” Endowed Fund was established to provide soccer scholarships for children to develop their soccer talents and “live” their passion for soccer.
Jackson Hohmann began playing soccer at the age of 4 by participating in the Dubuque Soccer Club's Spring, Summer and Fall Developmental Programs. In 2013, at the age of 7, Jackson accepted the invitation and challenge to advance his skills by joining the Dubuque Soccer Club's Academy Program (traveling team).
Soccer was a perfect sport for Jackson. While others were able to kick the ball harder and run faster than him, he understood that soccer was a team sport. The Dubuque Soccer Club Programs taught him and his teammates that through persistence, discipline and working together as a team they would be successful. When Jackson would score a goal in competitive play, his smile would nearly swallow his face and his quick “double-thumbs up” to the sideline was priceless.
One of Jackson's unique characteristics was that he had as much fun at soccer practice as he did scoring a goal in a tournament/festival games - because he was having fun with his teammates. Whether his team won or lost a game, he had an awesome time because he got to spend the whole day playing soccer with his teammates. Soccer challenged Jackson. He was determined to work hard to make each practice better than the last. He learned that a great pass or an assist (he and his dad called them “helper goals) was just as good as scoring a goal himself.
Jackson Hohmann died very suddenly and unexpectedly on Sunday, November 16th as a result of an undiagnosed congenital malformation of his intestines. He is dearly missed by his family, friends and teammates. His family and friends have established the Jackson Hohmann “Play Like There's No Tomorrow” Endowed Fund to honor Jackson's spirit and determination. The Endowed Fund will provide scholarship to the Dubuque Soccer Club's Developmental and Academy Programs that were so important to Jackson and his growth as a better soccer player, teammate and person.
