Jess’s Story My name is Jess. I’m a 35-year-old mother of one. My daughter, Izabel, is the love of my life. I’ve struggled with drug addiction most of my adult life. Making poor decisions for the two of us, my daughter had been removed from my care. I felt like my life was over. What was the point of going forward or making things better if I didn’t have her? I was devastated and hopeless. Then my DHS worker mentioned Maria House. I was reluctant at first, but I gave it a try. It was the only chance at getting my daughter home with me. This program has been so amazing. Since I moved in I have gained employment, bought a vehicle, and finished drug treatment. I am learning how to budget, live sober, and more than that I have gotten custody back of my beautiful daughter. I also now have a daughter on the way. Maria House is filled with so much love and support, from the staff and the other women that live here. - Jess, Maria House Resident
