The Tri-State Wind Symphony (TSWS) is a community band composed of 40-80 volunteer woodwind, brass and percussion musicians who enjoy playing free concerts at Eagle Point Park in the summertime. Started in 1995 by Director Brian Hughes, the band’s purpose has always been to provide an opportunity for band musicians of all ages to play together and make great music, sharing our music with the community. Although our concerts are usually at Eagle Point Park band shell, in the past we have also played at the Iowa Municipal Band Festival in Boone, Westminster Presbyterian Church, Veterans Memorial Park in Bettendorf, Riverview Park in Cascade, The Dubuque Fireworks, and at Sinsinawa Mound.
The TSWS encourages Tri-States-area citizens who like to play band instruments to join us. We have had musicians from as young as sixth grade to retired adults, playing mostly high school-level music. The TSWS is supported primarily by gifts from local businesses, friends, and by “passing the hat” at concerts. Donations are greatly appreciated and help to fund our operating expenses such as concert programs, new music purchases, commissioned pieces, new instruments, office space rental, publicity and a young composers contest.
TSWS relies on gifts from our generous donors in the community. Our special project this year is to commission a new work in celebration of the 25th anniversary season next year. Your gift is truly appreciated as it allows the band to fulfill our mission to promote education and appreciation of music to the participants as well as the general public.
We sincerely thank you for considering donating to our community band.
