4th Annual Data Walk to Focus on Employment and Equity
For immediate release
DUBUQUE, Iowa — The Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque’s fourth annual data walk on Thursday, December 2, will bring together local leaders to explore statistics and demographic information about our region that highlights opportunities for everyone to thrive as well as potential barriers to people's success.
This year’s data walk will be held in person from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Community Foundation’s offices, 700 Locust St., Dubuque. Data displays will focus on the theme of “employment and equity,” particularly the pandemic’s impact on workforce availability and average wages compared to cost of living in Dubuque.
“As we partner with organizations and residents in the community, it’s important to understand what data says about how our neighbors fare in different areas of life,” says Alex Baum, the Community Foundation’s director of community initiatives. “By following the data and listening to people, we can understand where to direct efforts that would help more people thrive.”
The data is intended to create discussion and collaboration around developing innovative, localized solutions to complex community challenges, a primary focus of the Community Foundation’s work.
Data drives the Foundation’s efforts to break down barriers that hinder people’s success. For instance, our 2017 community needs assessment identified access to brain health services as a priority for the Dubuque region. This research informs our brain health access initiative as well as other organizations’ efforts in the community.
While the data walk is geared toward community leaders from the nonprofit, government, civic, social service and education sectors, all members of the public are welcome to attend this free event. Visit dbqfoundation.org/DataWalk2021 for more information.
