Clayton County Foundation for the Future Endowment Funds Pay Out More Than $189,000

CLAYTON COUNTY, Iowa — The Clayton County Foundation for the Future recently announced $189,180 in agency and donor-advised endowment payouts for fiscal year 2019.

Community foundations are charitable organizations that administer funds to benefit their communities and improve the lives of people in their geographic region. Nonprofit organizations and community members can create endowment funds at the Clayton County Foundation for the Future to benefit charitable causes.

These funds are invested and pay out annually to the designated nonprofits, providing a reliable source of income to sustain organizations’ operations forever.

Endowment funds also help organizations like Paws on Your Heart Pet Rescue, which grants its annual payout to support pet programs for veterans and a clinic that treats abandoned pets.

“Paws on your Heart is proud to give its 2019 grant to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa (ARL) to support their Pets for Vets program, which trains special shelter dogs for veterans who need companion dogs,” said Susi Nehls, creator of the Paws on Your Heart pet rescue endowment fund. “ARL also helps veterans by offering discounts for adoption and dog training, and short-term pet care when owners are absent for extended medical treatment.”

Multiple nonprofits have established endowment funds through the Clayton County Foundation for the Future. Nonprofit leaders look to the foundation to hold their organizations’ endowments because the reliable source of funding helps them to respond to emerging needs as well as to plan and sustain the good work they do.

Donors who give to endowments through a community foundation also benefit from the Endow Iowa 25% State Tax Credit in addition to federal charitable income tax deductions.

“Endowment funds offer a tangible option for families and community members to give back to causes close to their hearts in our area forever,” said Emily Sadewasser, Clayton County Foundation for the Future coordinator. “Thanks to generous donors and committed organizations like Paws on Your Heart Pet Rescue, we are able to continue to provide this necessary support for the future of Clayton County.”
