COVID-19 Response Fund (CRF) for Greater Dubuque activated

Dubuque, IA– The Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque is today activating the COVID-19 Response Fund (CRF). The fund was created in partnership with United Way of Dubuque Area Tri-States and other local nonprofit and philanthropic organizations who have focused over the last year on developing a collective strategy for charitable giving during times of crisis. The group includes Catholic Charities of Dubuque, American Red Cross Tri-States Chapter, Dubuque County Visiting Nurses Association (VNA), Dubuque County Emergency Management, and Operation: New View.

As our community and its most vulnerable populations are facing the effects of COVID-19, the fund provides an opportunity for the public to give with the reassurance their donations will be deployed where they are most needed and to adapt to evolving needs. The flexibility of the fund will ensure that the community will respond to needs that are not being met by existing nonprofit, local, state and federal programs.

Hosted by the Community Foundation, the CRF will provide flexible resources to organizations working with communities who are disproportionately impacted by coronavirus and the economic consequences of the outbreak. The fund is designed to complement the work of public health officials and expand local capacity to address all aspects of the outbreak as efficiently as possible. The fund will use an efficient grant process to ensure dollars quickly reach nonprofits working with these populations.

“We anticipate that low-income families and seniors on fixed incomes who struggle to make ends meet will be the hardest hit by the pandemic,” said Nancy Van Milligen, president and CEO of the Community Foundation. “More individuals will experience food insecurity, and more will struggle to pay their housing, child care and transportation costs.”

The Community Foundation’s board of directors and Women’s Giving Circle have committed an immediate $50,000 to the CRF. These funds are available thanks to the generosity of donors who have supported the Community Impact Fund and the Women’s Giving Circle. Early conversations with additional partners have been promising and are underway.

We may not know what tomorrow will bring, but thanks to support of the CRF we have the confidence that we stand ready to meet the challenge. Our community has proven time and time again that we are stronger together and this collaborative spirit will once again prevail as we support our neighbors in need.
