DRA Awards $7,874 to School Foundation for Transit and Identification Safety

DUBUQUE, IOWA-- The Dubuque Racing Association (DRA) has awarded the Foundation for Dubuque Public Schools (FDPS) $7,874 in funds to upgrade safety equipment for student transit and staff identification.

New STOP paddles and high-visibility vests that meet current traffic codes will be used by crossing guards at all 19 DCSD campuses. Logoed ID lanyards with upgraded safety features for all 1,800 DCSD staff will help to identify personnel quickly and clearly at schools, on transit routes, and at off-site activities. Along with new requirements for staff to wear their ID's in a visible, above the waist location at all times, better identification lessens the risk of unauthorized personnel interacting with students and helps staff to recognize trespassers.

With the application submitted by the FDPS, this grant award comes at a critical time, as the Dubuque Community School District is operating with a significantly reduced budget during the 2016-2017 school year.  Without the award from the DRA, these important safety upgrades may have been delayed due to budget constraints.

FDPS is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that seeks financial support for Dubuque public school programs and projects that are not sufficiently funded by tax dollars.
