Foundation for Dubuque Public Schools and IntegrUS Credit Union Award Tribute to Teachers Classroom Grants

DUBUQUE, IOWA--The Foundation for Dubuque Public Schools (FDPS) and IntegrUS Credit Union have announced the 2016 recipients of a newly launched Tribute to Teachers grant program.  On May 3rd, National Teacher Appreciation Day, approximately $3,000 in classroom grants were awarded to public school teachers throughout the Dubuque Community School District (DCSD).  On May 5th, an additional $100 classroom grant was awarded to the Dubuque Education Association’s “Teacher of the Year”, Louis Fischer.  The gifts will provide much needed funding for supplies, equipment, and innovative educational experiences.

DCSD Teachers were invited to submit grant applications between February 15th and March 15th.  The applications were reviewed by a panel of FDPS Board members and community volunteers.  IntegrUS Credit Union generously sponsored the program by donating $2,500 in grant funds and promotional support.  The remaining $500 in grant funds were provided by individual foundation donors.

FDPS Tribute to Teachers grants were awarded at the following schools to the specified classroom teachers:

Jefferson/ Sara Jones: “Scholastic Magazines” – Reading intervention magazines for grades 6 – 8

Marshall/ Sara Runde: “First Grade iPod” – for use in reading, math, and technology applications

Marshall/ Kelly Neumann: “IDO – iPad, Differentiated, Outcomes” – for computer lab/library, multiple grades

Eisenhower/ Theressa Northouse: “Enriching Learning through Field Work” – science/history trip to lead mine museum 

Bryant/ Jen Martel: “High Interest – Low Vocabulary Level Reading Books” – for grade level reading intervention

Hempstead/ Donald Pirkle: “Structured Learning Vocational Tasks” – equipment to teach vocational skills

Alta Vista Campus/Jessica Steve: “If Only You Believed In Miracles” – book purchase for language arts and science coursework
