Kids Ride the Freeway to Fun City!

This summer, from June 1 – September 3, The Jule will again be offering the Freeway to Fun City program. Through collaboration with ECIA, Every Child/Every Promise, OnMedia, and Dupaco Community Credit Union, youth up to 18 years of age can ride the bus for free.

Participants must show bus drivers their Freeway to Fun City bracelets. Beginning May 28, the bracelets can be picked up at City of Dubuque Leisure Services, The Jule, or the Carnegie Stout Public Library and will also be offered to students in the final weeks of school at Dubuque Community Schools. Bracelets from last summer can also be used. Participants with a bracelet can ride any Jule route for free this summer.

ECIA and Every Child / Every Promise have convened a committee of community leaders to ensure that young people in Dubuque have safe and convenient public transportation options.  “This program will help ensure Dubuque’s children can take advantage of all of the terrific educational, recreational and safe places to play this summer,” said Nicole Johnson, Every Child / Every Promise Coordinator.

The Jule is the operator of mass transit within the City of Dubuque. “Freeway to Fun City is a great program for young people and adds to the list of improvements we are making here at The Jule for our riders,” said Barb Morck, Director of Transit Operations at The Jule.

DuPaco Community Credit Union is providing marketing support for the program in partnership with OnMedia.

The Jule offers transit bus routes throughout the city, including trolley transportation in downtown Dubuque and the Port of Dubuque, as well as a city-wide on-demand “minibus” service.

Every Child/Every Promise, in strategic alliance with the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque, works to engage the community in delivering the Five America’s Promises—a Healthy Start, Safe Places, Caring Adults, an Effective Education and Opportunities to Serve—to the children of Dubuque County.
