The Community Foundation is happy to announce that Kari McCann joined the staff as Director of Philanthropic and Nonprofit Partnerships on July 1.

CFGD strengthens nonprofits by partnering to create endowment funds, making grants to support nonprofits’ needs, and building capacity with resources and training. In this new position, Kari will support these efforts by leading current initiatives and working to create and expand new offerings.

“Kari has incredibly diverse experience and is very knowledgeable of our field,” said CFGD President and CEO Nancy Van Milligen. “She will be a great addition to our team.”

Kari is originally from Creston, Iowa, and recently earned her M.A. in Philanthropic Studies from the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy in Indianapolis. She also holds a B.A. from the University of Northern Iowa. As a student, she worked at organizations including Lumina Foundation, Grantmakers for Effective Organizations, the R.J. McElroy Trust and the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa.

“I’m excited about the variety this position will offer and also looking forward to meeting my colleagues and learning about the work they’re currently engaged in,” said Kari. “The Community Foundation encompasses every piece of philanthropy, from fundraising and working directly with donors to distributing funds and grantmaking. I’m excited to join the team.”
