Open House Scheduled for New Endowment Fund to Benefit McGregor

MCGREGOR, Iowa – Clayton County Foundation for the Future, an affiliate of the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque, has established the Alexander McGregor Endowment fund to support renewing, growing and sustaining the community of McGregor. The fund was started with a gift from the Restore McGregor 2017 Tornado Fund, which provided assistance to individuals, families and businesses in tornado recovery efforts.

“After money was gifted to the Restore McGregor 2017 Tornado Fund and distributed to community members for tornado recovery efforts, advisors of that fund voted to create the Alexander McGregor Endowment to build a vibrant future for McGregor,” said Emily Sadewasser, coordinator for the Clayton County Foundation for the Future.

Endowed funds support perpetual giving with annual payouts for generations to come. Distributions from the Alexander McGregor Endowment may support charitable public programs for the betterment of McGregor put forth by nonprofit, school, city or county leaders, or religious institutions for nonsectarian purposes. Gifts of any size are welcome to support building the endowment.

The new fund will be advised by a committee of community members from McGregor, who are organizing an open house to celebrate its launch. The open house will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, June 13, with remarks beginning at 6:30 p.m. The public is welcome to join in the celebration and learn more about the fund at the Backwoods Event Center, 111 First St., McGregor.

The committee invites community members to consider becoming founding members with gifts of $1,000 or more. If you would like to make a tax-deductible contribution to the Alexander McGregor Endowment, you can do so online at dbqfoundation.org/mcgregor or by mailing checks made out to Alexander McGregor Endowment to Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque, 700 Locust Street, Suite 195, Dubuque, IA 52001.

Gifts of $50 or more to endowed funds at the Clayton County Foundation for the Future may qualify for the Endow Iowa 25% State Tax Credit. Various gift types qualify for the tax credit, including charitable IRA rollovers, gifts of grain, gifts of stock and cash gifts.
