Philanthropist Cheryl Falb to Receive School Foundations Distinguished Hometown Alumni Award

DUBUQUE, IA— The Foundation for Dubuque Public Schools (FDPS) is pleased to announce Cheryl Falb is the recipient of the inaugural 2015 Distinguished Hometown Alumni Award. The award celebrates the achievements of local public school graduates and showcases their accomplishments.

Cheryl (Brown) Falb was born and raised in Dubuque, Iowa. She graduated from Senior High School in 1964 and married Mark Falb in 1968. Together, they have three children, all of whom are graduates of Senior High School. They also have eight grandchildren and the oldest is a fourth generation student at Senior.

As a mother and community leader, Falb has been an active participant in Dubuque’s public school organizations and area nonprofits. She has served as the parent-teacher organization president at Washington Junior and Senior High Schools, and as a board member for the American Red Cross, Dubuque Museum of Art, and Hillcrest Family Services, among other organizations.

Together with her husband Mark, Falb has been a generous supporter of her hometown, including public school programs and projects that enhance learning for Dubuque’s students and provide the tools they need to succeed as graduates. Highlights of Falb’s philanthropic projects include support for arts and culture, health, and human services throughout the community, technology and facility updates in the schools, and multi-year grants through FDPS to support instrumental music programs throughout the entire Dubuque Community School District.

“We are pleased to honor Cheryl Falb as the inaugural recipient of the 2015 Distinguished Hometown Alumni Award,” said Roy Hansen, FDPS board president. “Mrs. Falb is a real-life example of a DCSD graduate who has benefitted from Dubuque’s public education and used her influence to improve the community.”

Falb will be honored at the Foundation’s Third Annual Enhancing Excellence Luncheon on Tuesday, April 7 at the Grand River Center. She will speak about her time as a public school student and receive original metalwork by local artist Gail Chavenelle. Other guest speakers include Jack Hostager (Hempstead ’15) and Madison Davis (Senior ’13), with music provided by members of the Washington Middle School band.

The luncheon is open to the public with a minimum $100 donation requested at the event. Proceeds support FDPS programs and projects. For more information, contact FDPS Executive Director Jennifer Klinkhammer at Jennifer@dbqfoundation.org or 563.588.2700, or visit www.dbqfoundation.org/FDPS.
