Students invited to apply to join youth philanthropy group by May 31

The Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque’s youth philanthropy group, Youth Area Philanthropists (YAPPERS), is a team of highly motivated high school students dedicated to using volunteerism, philanthropy and grant making to act as positive youth role models, to develop leadership skills and to improve the quality of life for youth in the Dubuque community. They meet to engage in teambuilding and leadership activities, to discuss local youth issues, to plan events and service projects, and to make funding decisions to support youth-serving organizations.

Teens interested in membership can visit http://www.dbqfoundation.org/yappers for an application through May 31. In 2017, YAPPERS raised and awarded $7,400 in grants to the following six organizations:

  • Camp Albrecht Acres for Alternative Power Education
  • Catholic Charities for Therapeutic Intervention Tools
  • Dubuque Mercy Health Foundation for Experimental Therapies
  • Dubuque YMCA/YWCA for Reach & Rise Mentoring
  • Hills & Dales for Summer Group Respite
  • St. Mark Youth Enrichment for Creative Learning to Empower Students
