Theisens Awards $174K to Support Families and Children

Christmas is coming early to 147 nonprofits in Theisen’s Home•Farm•Auto store communities.

The fifth annual Theisen’s More for Your Community grant awards were announced today by company president Jim Theisen, who said, “With these grants of $174,671, we are simply giving back to our community and the people we serve. We are so proud to support these nonprofit organizations as they provide food, shelter, healthcare, safety and education to children and families in and near to our store communities.”

The corporate giving program is a partnership with the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque (CFGD). CFGD President and CEO Nancy Van Milligen said, “The most immediate and important needs of families and children were expressed in the 254 applications we received. The review process included a focus on meeting the most basic and urgent needs of children and families in a wide region from Dewitt to Indianola to Charles City and the other Theisen’s store communities in between.”

The projects include weekend backpack food programs, food pantries, playgrounds, children’s literacy, substance abuse prevention, after school mentoring, college preparation and access, character education, 4-H service projects, and child abuse prevention. Successful grant applications included evidence of project dollars directly reaching children, strong local match, as well as opportunities for those served to give back to the community.
