US Bank Foundation Sponsors First Grade Field Trips

DUBUQUE, IOWA—First graders throughout the Dubuque Community School District attended performances of “Peter Rabbit Tales” at University of Dubuque Heritage Center, thanks to a generous gift from the US Bank Foundation.

On October 24th, approximately 800 district first graders filled the seats at Heritage Center, John and Alice Butler Hall, to enjoy a live action adaptation of the beloved Peter Rabbit books.  Offered through UD’s School Bus Performance Series, the presentation was geared to early elementary students, with advance study guides for teachers and recommendations for school curriculum connections.  Funds from the US Bank Foundation were used to purchase student tickets and cover transportation costs for schools with a high percentage of low-income families.

The School Bus Performance Series field trip program reflects the US Bank Foundation's PLAY focus area by supporting arts education for low and moderate income elementary students in Dubuque.  The grant has made the arts more accessible to students who would not otherwise have the opportunity to experience live professional theater.
