William Bauerly Memorial Donation to Hempstead Drama Department

DUBUQUE, IOWA-- The family of William Bauerly, a 1980 graduate of Hempstead High School, recently donated $1,400 to the Hempstead High School Drama Department through the Foundation for Dubuque Public Schools (FDPS).

William Bauerly loved all aspects of live performance and often volunteered his assistance to his favorite theater groups by helping in the scene shop, as part of the crew, acting, or enjoying a live performance.  Upon his passing in August of 2015, William’s family contacted FDPS to accept memorial donations to support the Hempstead Drama Department in his name.  These gifts were used to construct a new work bench in the scene shop and replenish the lumber supply for set construction.

In recognition of the family’s gift, the theater staff installed a plaque with the following inscription:

“William Bauerly Memorial: In Honor of all Hempstead students and alumni who have dedicated their time to stage crew and construction, and a lifelong love for live performance.”
