YAPPERS Announce Oct. 19 Feed the Need Fundraiser

The Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque and its youth grantmaking board, the Youth Area Philanthropists (YAPPERS), announce the twelfth annual Feed the Need silent auction and soup luncheon will take place on Thursday, October 19, in the Roshek Building lobby, 700 Locust Street. Between 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., the public is invited to stop by for lunch, including several varieties of soup and bread provided by American Bombshell, Houlihan’s, Hy-Vee, Inspire Café, and Millwork Bakery. Attendees will also have the opportunity to bid on silent auction items donated by local businesses.

The cost is $10 at the door and all proceeds will support 2018 YAPPERS grants. Each year YAPPERS receive requests from local youth-serving nonprofit organizations. The high school students have the opportunity to review grants, go on site visits and make funding decisions to benefit local youth living in poverty. In the spring of 2017, the YAPPERS awarded $7,400 to local nonprofits.

The YAPPERS are comprised of 30 students from all three area high schools.  YAPPERS spend the academic year learning about community issues affecting local youth living in poverty. Feed the Need began as part of the Empty Bowls Project, a national youth poverty awareness campaign, and works to increase local awareness, community involvement and charitable giving focused on improving the lives of Dubuque’s disadvantaged youth.

Feed the Need is sponsored by the Community Foundation of Greater Dubuque, American Bombshell, Houlihan’s, Hy-Vee, Inspire Café, Millwork Bakery, Theisen’s Home*Farm*Auto, and Klauer Manufacturing.
